The National Water and Electricity Company (NAWEC) invites applications from suitably qualified and motivated individuals to fill the position of Treasury Officer within the Finance Department. The Treasury Officer will play a key role in managing NAWEC’s financial resources, supporting effective cash flow management, liquidity control, and contributing to sound corporate financial planning.

Role Summary

The successful candidate will be responsible for, but not limited to, the following duties:

  • Cash management and cash collection reporting
  • Processing payments to vendors, contractors, and staff salaries and benefits
  • Raising payment journals and ensuring accurate posting
  • Ensuring timely super vendor Cash Power top-ups after bank confirmation
  • Maintaining foreign exchange rate blotters (interbank and customs valuation rates)
  • Maintaining foreign exchange purchases and sales blotters
  • Following up with banks on pending or delayed account transactions

Key Unit Functions

  • Liquidity and cash flow management
  • Bank account management, transfers, and payments
  • Working capital and loan management
  • Creditors and debtors management
  • Corporate financial management and planning
  • Investment appraisal (capital budgeting)
  • Management of financial, reputational, and market risk exposures
  • Relationship management with banks, vendors, government agencies, SOEs, external lenders, and development partners

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines
  • Strong organisational and reporting skills
  • Team-oriented with a high sense of responsibility

Qualifications and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree (BSc) in Economics, Business Administration, Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline
  • Minimum of three (3) years’ experience in finance, treasury, or cash management
  • Good understanding of financial markets, including foreign exchange trends, commodities, and global economic developments affecting the energy sector
