Strategic Direction
Generation Expansion Roadmap
NAWEC's Cabinet-approved Strategic Roadmap 2021–2040 outlines an ambitious plan to transform The Gambia's electricity sector. Key generation priorities include:
- Diversification of the energy mix with increased renewable energy (solar PV, potential wind)
- Continued investment in thermal generation to meet near-term demand
- Maximising power imports through the OMVG interconnection and regional trade
- Independent Power Producer (IPP) frameworks to attract private investment
- Universal electricity access by 2025 through grid extension and mini-grids
- Long-term planning for generation adequacy through 2040
