NAWEC Receives New 21MW Generation Capacity to Strengthen Electricity Supply

NAWEC today received two brand-new generators, each with a capacity of 10.5MW, adding a combined 21MW to the national power generation system as part of the Government’s ongoing efforts to strengthen electricity supply, improve reliability, and address recent power challenges across the country.
The generators were officially received by His Excellency Vice President Muhammed B.S. Jallow at the Gambia Ports Authority (GPA). Speaking at the event, the Vice President reaffirmed the Government’s commitment to ensuring a stable electricity supply and expanding access to electricity nationwide in line with the national development agenda.
Managing Director Gallo Saidy confirmed that the generators are brand new and that installation and commissioning activities are expected to be completed by the end of October 2026. He further noted that the two generators form part of a three-generator agreement, with the third unit expected to arrive at a later date.
Once commissioned, the additional 21MW capacity will significantly enhance NAWEC’s ability to meet growing electricity demand, improve system reliability, and strengthen service delivery across The Gambia.
