The Story
The National Water and Electricity Company (NAWEC) has been honoured with the prestigious Public Enterprise Taxpayer of the Year 2025 award by the Gambia Revenue Authority (GRA), in recognition of the company’s outstanding commitment to tax compliance, financial discipline, and good corporate governance.
The award was presented at the GRA’s 8th Annual Taxpayer Award Night held on Friday, 23 May 2026. NAWEC’s award was received on behalf of the organisation by Abdoulie Tambedou, Group Finance Director, in a fitting tribute to the Finance Directorate whose diligence and professionalism made this achievement possible.
Board Chairman Dawda Kairaba Jawara, who attended the ceremony, expressed his pride in the recognition, commending the finance team for their discipline and dedication. “Awards like this give a clear indication of the progress NAWEC is making,” the Chairman noted, while emphasising that the company remains mindful of the work still ahead.
Managing Director Gallo Saidy echoed these sentiments, acknowledging the Finance Directorate as the driving force behind the achievement while underscoring that the milestone reflects a broader organisational effort — one that is enabled by the collaboration and commitment of staff across all directorates.
“This achievement reflects the collective effort and commitment of the entire Finance Directorate,” the Managing Director stated. “Their work continues to contribute meaningfully to the organisation’s growing credibility and improved performance.”
The GRA Certificate of Tax Compliance, signed by Commissioner General Yankuba Darboe, formally certifies NAWEC as the winner in the Public Enterprise Taxpayer of the Year category — a recognition that affirms the company’s strengthened financial governance and its fulfilment of statutory obligations.
NAWEC’s management has committed to sustaining this progress and further strengthening the company’s operational and financial position, with the continued guidance and support of the Board of Directors.
“Yes, together we can move this organisation to the next level and position it among the very best in Africa.”Gallo Saidy · Managing Director, NAWEC
