On 27 March 2026, the National Water and Electricity Company (NAWEC) officially welcomed a visiting delegation from Guinea‑Bissau’s national utility, Electricidade e Águas da Guiné-Bissau (EAGB), at its headquarters in Banjul, marking the start of their official working visit to The Gambia. The reception opened with introductions from both sides, creating a warm and collaborative atmosphere that set the tone for the engagements ahead.

Board Chairman Dawda Kairaba Jawara was the first to address the delegation, delivering a Welcome Statement on behalf of NAWEC. He reaffirmed the institution’s commitment to sharing its experiences and learning from neighbouring utilities, emphasising that cooperation accelerates growth for all parties involved. Chairman Jawara highlighted NAWEC’s ongoing efforts to improve service delivery, modernise infrastructure, and foster deeper professional ties across borders.

Managing Director Gallo Saidy also addressed the delegation separately, reinforcing the strategic importance of sub-regional collaboration. In his remarks, he underscored that building resilient energy systems across West Africa depends on the strength of partnerships between national utilities.

“Our collective success depends on how well we learn from, support, and inspire one another. Strengthening regional partnerships is key to building resilient and sustainable energy systems.”

The EAGB delegation responded warmly, expressing sincere appreciation for the hospitality extended to them upon arrival. They noted that The Gambia’s visible advancements in the energy sector make this visit particularly valuable, describing their mission as an opportunity to observe best practices and identify approaches that could strengthen their own utility’s operations and modernisation efforts.
