NAWEC Appointed as Rotating Executive Board Member of the West African Power Pool (WAPP)

January 2026 – December 2027

Banjul, The Gambia — 26 January 2026

The National Water and Electricity Company (NAWEC) has been appointed as a Rotating Executive Board Member of the West African Power Pool (WAPP) for the two‑year term January 2026 to December 2027.

The appointment follows WAPP’s internal review and adoption process on the composition of its Rotating Executive Board seats, which play a key role in steering regional energy cooperation, strengthening governance, and supporting the implementation of the ECOWAS Regional Electricity Market.

This milestone reflects NAWEC’s expanding leadership in regional power system development, its active participation in WAPP technical and operational structures, and The Gambia’s growing contribution to regional electricity integration and energy sector reform.

Welcoming the appointment, NAWEC’s Managing Director, Mr. Gallo Saidy, stated:

“NAWEC is honoured by this appointment and deeply appreciates the trust placed in us by WAPP and our sister utilities across the region. We are committed to fulfilling our responsibilities on the Executive Board and contributing actively to regional initiatives aimed at improving reliability, connectivity, and energy security across West Africa.”

As a Rotating Executive Board Member during the 2026–2027 term, NAWEC will participate in high‑level governance decisions, oversight of regional interconnection projects, coordination of power system operations, and the progressive rollout of the ECOWAS Regional Electricity Market.

NAWEC expresses its appreciation to the Government of The Gambia, the Ministry of Petroleum and Energy, WAPP member utilities, and regional partners for their continued support and collaboration.
