π NAWEC Builds Capacity on Environmental Protection
On 10β11 December 2025, NAWEC, in collaboration with its development partnersβthe French Foundation for Environmental Management (FFEM), the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), and the United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR)βsuccessfully concluded a two-day capacity building workshop at the African Princess Hotel.
The training was coordinated by NAWECβs Health, Safety & Environment (HSE) Department as part of the ongoing PCB/uPOPs Management Plan. It brought together key stakeholders including the National Environment Agency (NEA), the National Disaster Management Agency (NDMA), and NAWEC electricity contractors.
πΉ Focus of the Workshop
The sessions raised awareness on Persistent Organic Pollutants (POPs), specifically Polychlorinated Biphenyls (PCBs) and unintentional POPs (uPOPs). Participants explored best practices for:
- Safe management of hazardous chemicals
- Environmentally sound disposal methods
- Compliance with international standards under the Stockholm Convention
