Public Notice – Water Tank Incident in Basse

PUBLIC NOTICE

This is to inform the public about an incident at the Basse Water Tank.  During a routine inspection, it was found that an unscrupulous person(s) had broken the lock to the hatch of the water tank and had placed an unknown substance in the tank.

The police investigation unit and other relevant stakeholders have been informed and samples were taken from the tank and dispatched to the Abuko lab for analysis. Since the discovery of the incident, NAWEC has isolated the tank and has been supplying potable water directly by bypassing the affected tank. In the meantime, the NAWEC team has already deployed a unit to Basse to further monitor and investigate the incident.

Please be assured that NAWEC is committed to providing safe and reliable water services and will keep the public informed about any updates regarding this incident. Customers with further inquiries are encouraged to contact the nearest NAWEC office for assistance.

Public Announcement – Water Supply Maintenance Work at the Fajara Water Treatment Plant

Attention all customers in the Fajara area.
NAWEC wishes to inform the residents of Fajara area that as part of our ongoing efforts to improve the water supply, we will be carrying out maintenance work on the 9th of February 2023 at the Fajara Water Treatment Plant. During this time, it is possible that you will experience a reduced service level to your supply.
The maintenance work is scheduled to start at 10.00 am and is expected to last for 6 to 8 hours, however in the event this will last longer, we will advise you accordingly.
We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause and thank you for your understanding.

Public Announcement – Water Supply Transmission Line Shutdown

NAWEC wishes to inform the public that The Water Distribution Unit will embark on water supply system improvement works on the Marina Parade distribution line on Sunday the 29th of January 2023 between 10 am to 2 pm. During this period, the transmission line will be shut down and water supply to Banjul will be interrupted.

NAWEC regrets to inform the public that the power line that connects all the boreholes that supply water through Sukuta Treatment plant has developed some problems during the night and was isolated for repairs. As a result, all the boreholes have been shut down during the night to allow NAWEC to carry repairs on the affected line. This has caused some lack of water in the following areas:

 

  1. Sukuta
  2. Brusubi
  3. Salagi
  4. Latrikunda Sabiji
  5. Bakoteh
  6. Fajara
  7. Kanifing

Works on the line have been completed but this will take some time until the system is fully filled, most likely later in the evening.

NAWEC thanks all its esteemed customers for their patience and understanding while assuring all that normal service will resume soon.

  1. The Republic of The Gambia (hereinafter called “Borrower”) has received financing from the International Development Association (IDA), the European Investment Bank and the European Union (the “Banks”) in the form of a credit and grant (hereinafter called “credit” and “grant”) toward the cost of Gambia Electricity Restoration and Modernization Project (GERMP). The National Water and Electricity Company (NAWEC), an implementing agency of the Borrower (hereinafter called “Client”), intends to apply part of the proceeds toward payments under the Contracts for Intervention boreholes in GBA and Provinces with associated infrastructure. For this contract, the Borrower shall process the payments using the Direct Payment disbursement method, as defined in the World Bank’s Disbursement Guidelines for Investment Project Financing.
  2. The National Water and Electricity Company Limited (NAWEC) now invites sealed Bids from eligible Bidders for:

Lot 1: Intervention boreholes in GBA with associated infrastructure

  • Four new boreholes (WB 1 – 4) including kiosk, headwork arrangements and all site works
  • One new borehole (WB 5) including all civil works in Kabafita
  • New raw water main to WTP Brikama: 2670 meter PVC DN200, 900 meter PVC DN280, 200 meter PVC DN355
  • New raw water main to Kabafita tank, 850 meter PVC DN200
  • Connection to the existing aerator at the WTP Brikama
  • A new 11 kV power line from WTP Brikama to the boreholes WB 3 and 4 including transformers. From borehole WB 4 the power line should be extended to borehole WB 5 including a transformer
  • A new transformer from existing 11 KV powerline to the boreholes WB 1 and WB 2
  • Submersible pump, Control panel and telemetry for each borehole

 

Lot 2: Intervention boreholes in Provinces with associated infrastructure

  • One new borehole (WB 6) including all civil works in Kambujeh
  • New raw water main to Kembujeh tank, 150 meter PVC DN200
  • Demolishing of existing fence and construction of fencing of Kembujeh Tank Complex
  • One new borehole (WB 8) including all civil works in Kerewan – Saaba
  • Connect WB 8 to the existing water main to Kerewan tank,
  • Fencing of Kerewan Tank complex
  • Two new boreholes (WB 9 – 10) including all civil works in Farafenni
  • New raw water main to Farafenni tank, 1000 meter PVC DN250
  • One new borehole (WB 11) including all plot works in Bwiam
  • New raw water main to Bwiam tank, 1000 meter PVC DN200
  • One new borehole (WB 12) including all plot works in Mansankonko
  • New raw water main to Mansankonko tank, 750 meter PVC DN200, 600 meter PVC DN250 & 50 meter PVC DN315
  • Connection of all boreholes to the power grid
  • Construction of Chlorine building in Kembujeh and Farafenni
  • Installation of chlorination systems at all 6 sites
  • Construction of borehole headworks arrangements for all boreholes
  • Control panels

 

Main Qualifications Requirements:

Two similar contracts within the last Five (5) years, each with a value of at least:

For Lot 1: US$650,000

For Lot 2: US$800,000

  1. Bidding will be conducted through international competitive procurement using a Request for Bids (RFB) as specified in the World Bank’s “Procurement Regulations for IPF Borrowers (July 2016 Revised November 2017 and July 2018 and November 2020) (“Procurement Regulations”), and is open to all eligible Bidders as defined in the Procurement Regulations.
  2. Interested eligible Bidders may obtain further information from National Water & Electricity Company, attention Haddy Njie, email hnjie@nawec.gm, and inspect the bidding document during office hours Monday to Thursday from 8:00am to 16:00 p.m. and Friday from 8:00am to 12:30 p.m. at the address given below.
  3. The bidding document in English may be purchased by interested eligible Bidders upon the submission of a written application to the address below and upon payment of a nonrefundable fee of US$300. The method of payment will be bank transfer. The document will be sent by electronic mail in PDF format or a link for downloading will be provided. Should a bidder require hardcopy, it will be sent by courier mail, however, such bidder will have to make own pick up and shipment arrangement .
  4. Bids must be delivered to the address below on or before 12:00 pm Gambian time 31st January 2023. Electronic bidding will not be permitted. Late Bids will be rejected. Bids will be publicly opened in the presence of the Bidders’ designated representatives and anyone who chooses to attend at the address below.

PUBLIC ANNOUNCEMENT – Shutdown of the water supply network

NAWEC wishes to inform its customers that there will be a shutdown of the water supply network in the following areas.

7th November 2021 from 8:00am – 7:00pm – BL5 (Serakunda)

 9th November 2021 from 8:00am – 7:00pm – Exposing BL14 and BL18A (Serakunda 300m non-running line)  

 10th November 2021 from 8:00am – 7:00pm – connection Bl14 and BL18A 

 11th November 2021 from 8:00am – 7:00pm – BL22/K20 “T”connection with our 160dia. 

This shut down is required to facilitate the transfer of customers from the old water supply line to the new water pipes installed as part of the Asbestos Replacement project. As a result, the water supply in the following areas will be interrupted.

We, therefore, ask that you collect and store sufficient water during this period.

Areas to be affected include:

  • Kanifing,
  • pipeline
  • Serekunda
  • Fajara
  • K. Point
  • Dippa Kunda
  • London corner

Short-term – Emergency Works Component

The National Water and Electricity Company of Gambia (NAWEC) has received funds from Agence Française de Développement (“AFD“) and it intends to apply part of the funds to payments under the contract concerned by the present invitation, for Design & Build of the Short-term Works of the Water Supply Project in the Great Banjul Area (WASIB). The Employer intends to prequalify firms for attribution of this contract, comprising the following scope of work:

Emergency works
Rehabilitation of 8 damaged water tank liners
Design and build of 1 new elevated water tank for replacement (Serrekunda old tank – 500 m3) – including foundations and tower;
Design and build of 1 new water ground level reservoir for replacement (Serrekunda reservoir – 900 m3);
Replacement of 3 damaged elevated water tanks’ galvanised tank panels (tank only);
Replacement of 9 old transfer pumps
Upgrade of 2 transfer pumping stations (Brikama north line & Kotu ring)
Design and build of 2 boreholes in the airport sector (Airport 2 and 3), including equipment and connection to the transmission line to the Yundum new tank and MV line
Equipment of 1 borehole (Airport 1) in the airport sector and connection to the transmission line to the Yundum new tank and MV line;
Connection of 1 borehole (NASA) in the airport sector to the transmission line to the Yundum new tank and MV line;
Design and build of 2.58 km DN150-DN300 uPVC transmission main between NASA well and Yundum new elevated tank, including all joints, valves, accessories, and structure. Including topographic survey;
Purchase and implementation of bulk water metering: 36 on wells, 27 inlets/outlets of water tanks, 17 for treatment plants and pumps. Including 21 emitters for tanks outlet meters and 35 emitters for wells meters;
Construction of 8 new chambers for implementation of meters;
Replacement of faulty non-return valves: 27 at the inlet of elevated tanks, 32 for transfer pumps;
Replacement of inlet and outlet pipes of 8 elevated tanks;
Implementation of 21 regulation valves on elevated tanks.
Implementation of 6 float valves on elevated tanks;
Implementation of telemetric remote control-command of 21 elevated tanks, 16 wells of Brikama well field and 19 stand-alone wells;
Equipment of two control rooms for telemetric system and training (Brikama and Serrekunda);
Replacement of existing water treatment plant chlorination system by calcium hypochlorite, and O&M training on 5 WTPs.
Purchase of wells spare submersible pumps, motors, and impellers
Supply and delivery of truck with mounted crane for maintenance of submersible pumps
Purchase of 10 000 customer water meters
Laboratory equipment upgrade and training.
