NAWEC wishes to inform its esteemed customers that Karpower has scheduled routine maintenance works on both of their engines at different times, from the 8th – 18th February 2023.
However, we don’t anticipate much power supply interruption during the maintenance period.
NAWEC apologizes for the inconvenience this may cause. Normal power supply shall be restored as soon as the maintenance works are completed.

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
1.0 Introduction and Overview of the Project
The proposed Gambia Electricity System Rehabilitation and Expansion Project (GESREP) is to be funded by the African Development Bank (AfDB) to contribute to the Government of The Gambia’s (GoTG’s) goal of increasing electricity access through the provision of reliable electricity and strengthening of the institutional systems of the National Water and Electricity Company (NAWEC). Considering the aging electricity infrastructure and consequential transmission and distribution losses, the GESREP aims to construct new substations, rehabilitate existing substations and upgrade low voltage lines with the accompanying secondary substations and transformers. The proposed enhancement of NAWEC’s Customer Service Department through an increase in the number of Customer Service Centers and the provision of improved data management infrastructure aims to reduce the commercial losses that continue to affect NAWEC’s performance.
1.1 Project Goal and Objectives
The main goal of the Project is to increase access to electricity through enhanced operational and financial performance of NAWEC. The objectives of the GESREP include: –
i. promoting social development through increased access to reliable electricity;
ii. increasing the billing and revenue collection capacity of NAWEC for enhanced financial performance;
iii. contributing to the rebuilding and recovery of the economy of The Gambia during and post Covid-19 Pandemic;
iv. enhancing skills and the institutional structures within NAWEC for efficient service delivery;
v. promoting healthy and safe environments for workers and the public.

Public Announcement – Water Supply Transmission Line Shutdown

NAWEC wishes to inform the public that The Water Distribution Unit will embark on water supply system improvement works on the Marina Parade distribution line on Sunday the 29th of January 2023 between 10 am to 2 pm. During this period, the transmission line will be shut down and water supply to Banjul will be interrupted.
We apologize for any inconvenience during this period.

- BACKGROUND
After years of underinvestment and operational difficulties, NAWEC has commenced a major program of transformation and change designed to modernize its infrastructure and re-engineer its systems and procedures. With support from the world bank, major investments are underway to revamp transmission and distribution networks, generating plants, water infrastructure and operating systems.
NAWEC’s group mission is: “To ensure the safe, efficient, effective and environmentally friendly provision of affordable nationwide electricity, water and sewage services to satisfy customer requirements, achieve a financially sound position and contribute to the socio-economic development of the Gambia.”
To help achieve its mission and to assist with the delivery of the ambitious and challenging programmes NAWEC has been carrying out a series of communication activities, including a weekly call-in radio program. To expand outreach to a wider audience and to touch on more topics, an additional call-in radio program is sought for the weekend. This assignment will involve a contract of about six months from signing it.
- REPORTING
This assignment will be implemented under a NAWEC contract, in collaboration with the World Bank.
- QUALIFICATIONS
The consultant is expected to have expertise in creating infographics and videos to effectively communicate the outcomes of projects and other activities to external audiences
The consultant should have:
- Extensive experience in communication, such as strategic communication, media, social media, advertising, public relations, digital campaigns, social marketing, and related activities.
- Proven expertise in the design and implementation of advocacy campaigns on public interest issues at an international level
- Experience in creating animated infographics
- Experience in producing short videos
- Excellent writing and presentation skills; demonstrated interpersonal and diplomatic skills, as well as the ability to communicate effectively with all stakeholders and to present ideas clearly and effectively; proven ability to work in a collaborative and multi-stakeholder team environment.
- The ability to draft professional public communication materials quickly. Proven experience in at least one similar assignment in the last three years in a similar capacity.

The attention of interested Consultants is drawn to Section III, paragraphs, 3.14, 3.16, and 3.17 of the World Bank’s “Procurement Regulations for IPF Borrowers” dated July 2016 and revised November 2017 and August 2018 and November 2020 (“Procurement Regulations”), setting forth the World Bank’s policy on conflict of interest.
A Consultant will be selected in accordance with the Consultant’s Qualification-based Selection method set out in the Procurement Regulations.

PUBLIC ANNOUNCEMENT – Gunjur Power Supply Feeder Technical Faults
PUBLIC ANNOUNCEMENT
NAWEC wishes to inform the public that the power supply feeder in Gunjur has developed some technical faults this morning causing a total blackout in the area. The area is currently isolated while a team is already on the ground to troubleshoot and restore service as soon as possible.
Meanwhile, the following areas will experience some power interruptions in their areas pending the completion of repair works.

NAWEC apologizes for the inconvenience caused while thanking all the affected customers for their understanding and cooperation. Normal service will be restored soon after the completion of works on the affected feeder.
PUBLIC ANNOUNCEMENT – Water Supply Shutdown
PUBLIC ANNOUNCEMENT
NAWEC regrets to inform the public that the power line that connects all the boreholes that supply water through Sukuta Treatment plant has developed some problems during the night and was isolated for repairs. As a result, all the boreholes have been shut down during the night to allow NAWEC to carry repairs on the affected line. This has caused some lack of water in the following areas:
- Sukuta
- Brusubi
- Salagi
- Latrikunda Sabiji
- Bakoteh
- Fajara
- Kanifing
Works on the line have been completed but this will take some time until the system is fully filled, most likely later in the evening.
NAWEC thanks all its esteemed customers for their patience and understanding while assuring all that normal service will resume soon.
SHUTDOWN ANNOUNCEMENT- Borehole feeder Bijilo
SHUTDOWN ANNOUNCEMENT- Borehole feeder Bijilo.
NAWEC informs the public that it will shut down the borehole feeder from Bijilo on Wednesday 7th December 2022. The shutdown is to allow BB Electrical company to do the final connection on the underground cable crossing Rad Ville farm, Sukuta traffic light, and Salagie for the MV line diversion on the OIC road construction area.
Works are expected to last for 6 hours, from 11:00 am to 17:00 pm, and during the period the following areas will experience some interruptions in the power supply.
