NAWEC informs the general public that all its branches across the country will close at 6:00 pm every day during the holy month of RAMADAN 2021.

The changes are temporal and only for the Ramadan period. Normal business and other official transactions will resume immediately after the Koriteh prayer.

NAWEC regrets any inconvenience this may cause its valuable customers and solicits the understanding and cooperation of the general public.

The National Water and Electricity Company (NAWEC) wishes to conduct by way of a public auction the disposal of scrap Motor Vehicles and Motor Bikes located at the NAWEC head office in Kanifing.

The auction sales is slated for Saturday 23rd January 2021 at the above location by 10:00am.

The items can be inspected during working hours between 8:00am and 4:00pm.

A deposit of 10% of any item(s) won would have to be made on the spot.

FOR THE ATTENTION OF PERSONS AFFECTED BY

THE PROJECT (PAP) BY THE JAMBUR SOLAR PV PLANT WITH BATTERY STORAGE

As part of the Gambia Electricity Restoration and Modernization Project (GERMP), the Resettlement Action Plan (RAP) has identified different persons affected by the Jambur Solar PV Plant in the West Coast Region. For the implementation of the RAP, those affected persons need to be fairly compensated prior to the works.

The People Affected by the Project (PAP) are requested to contact without delay, the Consultant, INOVA, which is mandated by NAWEC to carry out the implementation of the Resettlement Action Plan (RAP) to provide their support for the payment of their compensation. The list of PAP who are not yet identified are attached on the Appendix.

The deadline for making the site available for this project is imminent. The Ministry of Lands and Regional Government (MoLRG) has issued the “NOTICE OF REQUIREMENT OF LAND FOR PUBLIC PURPOSE AT JAMBUR VILLAGE” in accordance with the Land Acquisition and Compensation Act (LACA).

PUBLIC ANNOUNCEMENT – Power Outage due to routine maintenance

NAWEC wishes to inform the general public that   Kotu  Feeder 5 will be shut down for routine maintenance on Saturday 21st November 2020. Works on the feeder are scheduled to begin at 10:00 am and end at 15:00pm.

As a result, those residing in the following areas that are connected to said feeder will be without power until works are completed:

  3. Pipeline
  4. Old Jeshwang
  5. Kotu
  6. Mile 7
  7. Kanifing

NAWEC apologizes for the inconvenience caused while soliciting the usual understanding of its esteemed customers. Normal service will be restored as soon as the maintenance is completed.

PUBLIC ANNOUNCEMENT – Update on Karpowership replacement

FINAL UPDATE ON THE KARPOWERSHIP REPLACEMENT OPERATIONS

We are pleased to inform the general public that the Karpowership replacement operations are completed successfully and within 24 hours.

At 21:30 PM last night all the electrical work has been completed and at exactly 02:55 AM GOKTAY BEY (the new powership), was finally connecting to the grid and thus allowing NAWEC to reenergize the new lines for normal operations to begin.

Our gratitude to the entire team of experts and engineers from both Karpowership and NAWEC for a successful operation.

PUBLIC ANNOUNCEMENT – Load Shedding due to Karpowership replacement

Following stakeholder consultations between NAWEC Management, Karpowership and its team of experts, a decision has been reached to resume the operation of replacement of the power ship tonight, early hours of Monday, November 9, 2020, at 03:00 AM if weather conditions permit.

 

Work is expected to last for 36 hours and as a result, there will be regular load shedding in the Greater Banjul Area particularly during the evening peak demand.

 

NAWEC solicits the understanding and patience of our esteemed customers. Normal supply shall be restored as soon as replacement work is completed.

Public Notice – 225kV Transmission Line RAP Census

                                                  

The Government of The Gambia (GOTG), with financing from the World Bank’s Gambia Electricity Restoration and Modernization Project (GERMP), intends to construct a High Voltage 225 kV Transmission and Distribution line from Brikama to Jabang at the edge of the Salagi Forest Park where a 225/33 kV substation will be built. Three 33 kV lines will also be built from the Jabang substation to feed the Bijilo, Old Yundum and Wellingara substations.

A second phase of survey/census will be conducted to identify all the affected persons along those corridors between 21st October 2020 to 6th November 2020. The new cut-off date to be included in this census the second phase will be Friday 6th November 2020.

The transmission line will start at the edge of the Salagi Forest Park and go along the buffer zone of the Forest up to the Forest billboard at Jamwelleh about 1.8 km off the Sukuta-JambangJelly Highway. From the Forest billboard it will take a right angle toward the border between Mariama Kunda and Jabang, Labakoreh, Yuna and Latrya before turning left, crossing the Sukuta-Jambangjelley Highway toward the proposed Solar Power Plant in Jambur. From the Jambur Solar PV Plant, the line will go along the Bamba and Nyambai Forest Parks crossing the Brikama-Serrekunda Highway to the Brikama OMVG substation.

All those whose land(s) will be affected by the Project (especially, those living within the above-mentioned corridor) are requested to contact NAWEC Project Management Unit (PMU) as soon as possible.

The team of consultants and NAWEC will be on site from Wednesday 21 October to Friday 06 November 2020. Please bring all documentation proving ownership or use of this land to the meeting with the surveyors.

Claimants who move into this land on or after November 06 will not be counted in the census.

PRESS RELEASE – Design and Build of Transmission Infrastructure between Brikama and Jabang by World Bank under the GERMP

Following last week’s radio interview of The Hon. Minister of information with reference to some media publications regarding the Notification of Intention to Award the contract for the Design and Build of Transmission Infrastructure between Brikama and Jabang.

NAWEC would like to inform the general public that this particular activity is financed by World Bank under The Gambia Electricity Restoration and Modernization Project (GERMP) which National Water and Electricity Company Limited is the implementing Agency.

This Project (GERMP) is being implemented by the Project Implementation Unit within NAWEC.

NAWEC hereby notifies the public that the procurement process for this activity was two-stage which involves Prequalification/Initial Selection and then Request for Bids. The World Bank’s role is to ensure the process for World Bank Financed activities is carried out in line with World Bank Procurement Guidelines. The World Bank does not take part in the procurement process but instead provides “No Objections” after receiving documentation of the completion of key stages which for large contracts.

 

The prequalification was done by an Evaluation Committee which members comprise of NAWEC’s Technical Team, PIU, International Procurement Consultant and Consultant who did the feasibility study of the transmission infrastructures line and six (6) Applicants were shortlisted based on merits as per NAWEC’s requirements.

 

RFB was issued out to the shortlisted Bidders and five of them submitted their bids which were evaluated by the same Evaluation Committee. The Bid Evaluation Report was approved by the Bank and NAWEC issued out Notification of Intention to Award to all the five (5) Bidders. There is a Standstill period of 10 business days from the date of transmission of the Notification letter to allow bidders request for debriefing and complains. All these processes are being communicated to the Bank.

 

NAWEC would like to reassure everyone that all procurement rules have been followed with due diligence. The contract is not yet awarded therefore no details of this process can be disclosed at this stage, but all contracts signed by the project are publicly available.
