PUBLIC ANNOUNCEMENT NAWEC informs the general public that the current electricity situation in the GBA is as a result of some maintenance being carried out on two engines in both Brikama and Kotu Power stations since on Monday 4th September, 2017. This has made it extremely difficult for NAWEC to distribute normal supply to all customers at the same time thus stretching the load shedding rooster. Consequently, it has led to the low pressure or lack of water being experienced in the water supply system. NAWEC assures its esteemed customers that extra efforts will be made to keep the rest of the generators available during the period in order to minimize the load shedding as a result of the absence of the engines. NAWEC apologizes for any inconvenience this may cause and promises to restore normal supply as soon as works on the engines are completed. Thank you.

As custodians of important public utilities like water and electricity, the Management of NAWEC is pleased to re-launch this website as a platform to provide needed information to our valuable customers, partners and stakeholders both internally and externally.

NAWEC has undergone landmark transformations in terms of our operations with considerable expansion of services for both water and electricity. We are aware of the need to continue to expand the services of water and electricity to our population. It is in view of that consideration that NAWEC embarked on major water projects to boost the supply of clean water for both the urban and peri-urban population in 2012. In the area of electricity, major activities as recently as 2012 to 2013 have been the procurement of consultancies and works of major generation projects both for the urban and rural Gambia up to about 35MW brand new addition to the existing capacity and works have already started in 2013.

Like many developing countries, the global environment affects the operations of NAWEC. In a period when the global economic recovery is threatened by multiple problems including supply shocks (soaring oil prices), financial shocks, high unemployment, famine, hunger and the food crisis, civil war in the middle east and north Africa, the operational landscape becomes all the more daunting.

Nonetheless, realizing the importance of water and electricity to our people, NAWEC and government have made significant efforts to ensure the provision of secured and reliable supplies of water and electricity to the population and to the different sectors of the economy. In order to achieve this goal and overcome the problems of the past, NAWEC with support from The Gambia government have adopted a strategy which focuses on a reliable, affordable and continuous expansion of water and power systems. Steps into renewable energies, reliable medium voltage networks, electrification of all rural areas, interconnection initiatives with neighboring countries and adequate expansion of the water services are in progress. The frequent rise in the international price of petroleum necessitates the need for more attention towards the practical solutions within the field of renewable energies such as wind and solar power.

NAWEC will continue to be guided by the lofty vision of His Excellency the President of the Republic of the Gambia, Sheikh Professor Alhaji Dr. Yahya A.J.J Jammeh, whose personal commitment and support have been a major factor in the realization of the above achievements.

Finally, I wish to urge you all to make good use of this website for updates on valuable information about NAWEC. We will appreciate feedbacks through relevant links provided.
